From Our Home To Yours

No factories here, just skilled hands, dedication, and a life spent doing what they love. We believe in mindful purchasing and that products should last longer than a season. When you purchase from Millstream Home you are directly supporting our Makers, their families, and their craft. American-made matters, and choosing local artisans is always worth it. Each piece is crafted in a shop, shed, or garage, built to last and carry its own story. Thank you for being here — if we could, we’d have you over for dinner.

Meet the Founder

Hi, I’m Janelle, the founder, curator, and storyteller of Millstream Home. As a first-generation non-Amish woman, I created Millstream Home to honor my Amish heritage in a modern way. Though raised outside the community, I carry forward the traditions and values of my family’s past.
After 15 years as a full-time mom, my love for home and family naturally grew into a passion for entrepreneurship and meaningful design. I’ve become an advocate for heritage craftsmanship, American-made manufacturing, and women-led business.

In 2015, my husband, Jake, and I founded
JKS & CO., a home renovation company, and in 2019, I launched Millstream Home. Our mission is simple: to enrich the places you live and the objects you love.

When I’m not at work, I’m at home in Lancaster with our five children, spending slow weekends at the cabin or beach, cooking, listening to music, and soaking in quiet moments together.

Welcome to Millstream Home,
I’m so glad you’re here.

With Light + Love,

Janelle

The Millstream Home Story

Millstream Home began as my ode to Amish heritage - a way to honor the craftsmanship, simplicity, and beauty that shaped my upbringing. I’m a first-generation non-Amish woman, born after my parents left the community, yet deeply influenced by their roots. My husband, Jake, was raised Amish on a 60 acre farm until age sixteen, and together, we share a deep respect for the traditions and integrity of handmade work.

In 2016, I set out on my own journey down Lancaster’s winding back roads, searching for Makers who still craft with time-honored methods. Those quiet workshops, humble tools, and the people behind them became the heart of Millstream Home. Several of my first prototypes were inspired by pieces my mother, Naomi, used for more than sixty years - like our Horsehair Dust Brush, modeled after one she purchased as a young bride from a traveling “broom man.” Her well-loved basket, used for decades, also inspired one of our most timeless pieces, a tribute to her nurturing spirit and the quiet beauty of everyday work. The past decides our future here at Millstream Home.

Today, Millstream Home connects a growing network of American Makers - from basket weavers and potters to blacksmiths and quilters, creating pieces made by hand, heart, and home. What began at our kitchen table has grown into a brand carried by over 900 independent boutiques nationwide and a
flagship store in Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania.

Through Millstream Home, and now our Design Studio initiative, I am proud to carry forward a legacy of American craftsmanship, reminding us what truly lasts: craftsmanship, beauty, and connection.
