One thing I've always loved about my heritage is the amazing inclusivity of children and their participation in everyday tasks. Work together. Play together. Even though Jake and I aren't practicing the Amish faith, we incorporate many of their core values into our life with our 5 children. From kitchen duties to household maintenance, we stand side by side in the kitchen and contribute together to our shared household. I love looking for the intentional ways the Amish include children as helpers: the wash-lines are hung low, so they can help hang out the laundry to dry, the brooms are made small so they can feel like a valued part of the clean up tasks. When I thought of creating The Millstream Home Collection I knew that making children feel welcome was important to me andI tried to create products that place value on the nearness of children. After all, this is their home too.
